Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) is a new standard for connecting “things” on the internet..
All in all, NB-IoT is supported by thirty of the largest operators, providing communications to more than 3.4 billion customers, and geographically 90 percent of the IoT market.
– Low power consumption
– Low costs
– Coverage in difficult environments
These important features will provide a snowball effect that will strengthen NB-IoT’s position as widely available LPWA technology. This also means that customers can standardize on one LPWA technology for applications around the world. We see a similar trend with hardware manufacturers. Leading suppliers such as Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Qualcomm and Intel have all chosen to stay behind NB-IoT , which means that customers have a wide choice in equipment that fits different applications, and at lower cost. As mentioned earlier, we expect the cost of NB-IoT devices to be significantly lower than Sigfox and LoRa hardware.
